Nyctea nyctea. Lake Umbagog, New England. At Richardson Lake in 1897. 1898. Will Sargent tells me that late last autumn (in November Aug.29. he thinks) his brother Luman saw a Snowy Owl at the narrows of Richardson Lake. It was perched on an upturned root at the water's edge. Just as he was about to shoot it flew and ris- ing above the trees made off over a point of land. He after- wards came on it again farther up the Lake and fired at it cutting out two wing feathers which he describes as pure white with black markings.
