October 28' Heard at sunset in Dr. Gehring's woods. It called
three times giving each time a succession of four
whistles: hew, hew, hew, hew. Dr. Gehring tells me he
has heard this call near his tent, in the middle of
the night, or three occasions during this month. Belhid
November 13' Heard the hew, hew, hew, hew call once at 9 a. m.
in Dr. Gehring's woods. Morning cloudy & mild Belhid.
