Cryptoglaux acadica.
L. Umbagog, Maine.
Nyctala ac. June 16 - Canaries / May 18 1/2
Lake Umbagog. Maine.
Nyctala acadia
1894 August 29 P.M./Sargeant)
Lake Umbagog.
1896. Nyctala acadica
June 4, at 9 P.M. one fished at intervals
for a minute or two in the brush
grass on Pine Point not over 50 yds.
from our camp. I was standing
outside, the air was perfectly still &
I used him to great advantage. There
was positively no ringing or other
metallic quality to the notes which
were briefly whistled very similar to
those of Glauclidium (Hirundico) but
rather more guttural and each with
a double tongued inflection, where'd --
where'd I should write them
" 5. 11.30 P.M. One flying in direction 7. \
Morris Rock.
Lake Umbagog.
1896. Nyctala acadica
May 25 2/3. One heard by Jim this evening near
camp. Another by Charles Edwards near
Wells's Rock Spring (within it has been
heard by him for the past three nights)
(Both birds giving white-laws notes, 8 to
9 P.M. full moon)
" 27 1/4 Morris Rock. 9 P.M. Heard faintly but
distinctly at Pine Point 1 1/2 miles off.
" 28 1/4 Morris Rocks Spring 11 A.M. Clear, dead
Calms, light easterly. Storm began at 3 P.M. / \
Jang - tang - tang etc. 4 tangs every 5
seconds, bird called about a minute.
Voice metallic with a ringing quality
reminiscent in some of Bell Bird's tang but
gathered not formed round under at two yards
than when heard best right at 1 1/2 miles.
It does resemble town filing but is
much quicker - a monotonous sound
also reminded me of a piece of metal
hanging softly & striking other metal.
" 31 Bird filing his bow at Morris Rock 8.30
P.M. night fair & clear. He uttered regularly
12 tangs every 5 seconds by any flat words.
Heard him at one camp distinctly.
June 1 - Filed 8 or 10 miles away Morris Rock 8.30 P.M. \
" 2 - Filed filing at Round Pond 6 to 8.30 P.M. \
" 3 - Round Pond. 8.30 P.M.
