Haliaetus leucocephalus. Lake Umbagog, Maine. 1896. Nevertheless even Will Sargent sometimes confounds the two,- Sept. I. as happened yesterday. 1897. There were also several Bald Eagles about and late in May 21. the afternoon two brown birds went to roost in a hemlock at the head of the cove where we are anchored. For nearly an hour they kept up a loud screaming uttering a whistle, re- peated several times in quick succession and so very like the cleur-cleur-cleur of Sphyranicus varius that we were all de- ceived at first. It was, however, louder and given more slowly.
