Haliaetus leucocephalus.
L. Umbagog
1885.
Oct. 9. Two or three seen daily about the lake shores,
about 50 per cent adult birds. They have their
favorite trees, usually tall dead pines, on which
they perch listlessly for hours at a time. The
only cry that I have ever heard this Eagle
utter is a sort of choking or stuttering laugh of
two or three notes the whole given quickly but
with apparently great effort and on a descending
scale in words or syllables it would be he-he-he-
he - he - he-ah. It is only uttered when this
bird is pursued and seems to be a cry of alarm.

note of young Pee - pee-e, hee-c-e,
shrill, querulous with a rising
inflection, a squealing note suggesting
hunger or importunity. I hear it
at all hours but often most at
sunset. I have seen the bird make
it. Never heard it before this year.
