Sept. 1st A flock of Greater Yellow-legs feeding on the Outskirt meadows unwarily took flight with great clamor and much apparent alarm whenever a Marsh Hawk came sailing over them, although the Hawk in no instance made any threatening demonstration.
On Aug. 28th, however, Miss Savage saw two Marsh Hawks repeatedly borne one and swoop down at a flock of ten Yellow-legs but the act was performed so clumsily that the birds easily escaped.
It struck me to-day whilst watching two Marsh Hawks that on times their flight was strikingly like that of Coots, since the wings were held exactly the same way at an upward angle of nearly 45° as the bird tilted & floated on a strong current. Then one of them soared, soaring in circles, its wings were held nearly level like those of a Buteo.
