Falco sparverius. Lake Umbagog, Maine. Notes & Playfulness 1888 Sept. 12 A Sparrowhawk in a large burnt ground at Sluice playing with two Crows. It would dive at them & then rise & hover calling klee-lac-klee-lac-klee-lac, when the Flickers flew it would accompany them cutting graceful curves & circles over & around them. All this was clearly mere play & the Flickers evidently so understood it for they showed not the slightest alarm and often flew to a tree where the little Falcon sat & alighted with a few feet of levin, I followed the trio some distance but could not separate them. Falco sparverius. 1888, September 12. At the Sluice, Lake Umbagog. In the opening a Sparrow Hawk chasing two Flickers in play and uttering his chattering cry.
