Last year Partridges were numerous throughout the Boda region and
an unusual number brood there in the Spring of 1896 but they have
been exceedingly scarce this autumn and nearly all that have come
under my observation have been old birds. It is evident that for
some mysterious reason most of them failed to rear their broods.
The local hunters attribute this to the Foxes which have certainly
been exceptionally numerous this year & which may have caused the
diminution of young but I doubt it. The breeding season was
warm & dry & apparently in every way favorable for the birds .
