May 15 - Nest 40 rods S. E. Sargents horn
Found by Watsons 2 P.M. Bird on.
Sat very close N. Flush twigs freshly (with a flick) not 6 inches over the bed without disturbing her. We stood within 10 ft for minutes, then after we visited nest again at 4 P.M. Bird on. Nest on edge of alder thicket near wet marsh - bush grown posture. In brush of tall alders. Bird got high & was very conspicuous.
She called frequently but no other nesting.
May 16. Watsons visited nest 3 times this forenoon, Birds on each time.
May 17. Visited nest & took 2 photos, as I was adjusting camera for a third at about 5 ft. Bird started & ran 20 yds. turning over on her side & flapping her wings, whining as if with young; nest held 9 eggs, all this at 7:30 a.m.
Half an hour later bird in alder 10 yds from nest.
18. Walked. Bird on. She left nest at once within an area of ft. off & returned as before, apparently the Partridge does not get too closely after being over driven off or realizing that the nest is discovered.
Eggs taken May 18 - fresh
Nest on edge of thicket of tall alder next ground foot of small alders two large birches and roots with small arbor vitae on one side & Viburnum cutters on other, well concealed from above three sides by underbrush than shrubs.
