Helodromas solitarius.
Totanus solitarius
Both occur in Me.
I shot a young bird to-day at
the mouth of Peabody's Brook. It was
feeding on the mud in company with
a Fringa alpinia and was very tame.
Lake Umbagog, Maine.

Sept. 13
Two on a sand beach at C. Pond, the other
on a mud bar in the river just below the pond.
Both exceedingly tame allowing us to paddle
within ten or fifteen yd. They had a teetering motion
similar to that of Fringillidae but very much
less pronounced & also less incessant.
L. Umbagog, Maine.
