Sept. 12 2 shot at Outlet on mud bank
in company with two Pectorals &
from Eremite finches, When
their backs were turned towards me the
Baird's Sandpipers resembled the Pectorals
closely when their breasts were expanded
they looked more like the Eremites.
Between these
they were about intermediate in characteristics
They differ in respect to
this species and motions
differences
Sept. 25. Shot an adult ♂ & a jun. ♂ on
the marshes near the Outlet. They were
in company with a Ring-neck Plover
finding on an extensive mud flat on the
edge of a pool of shallow water into which
they waded to their bellies. As a rule they
waddled rather sedately like Pectorals but
occasionally they ran quickly about in
divers courses like the smaller Tringa.
They probed the mud continually drawing their
bill in to their eyes. They were very tame,
They looked so very like Eremites that I was
not sure of their identity until I shot them.
