Aegialitis vocifera.
Lake Umbagog, Maine.
1894.
Oct.2 We were returning down the river when I heard the cry of
a Killdeer Plover, a bird new to my Umbagog list. It appeared
presently, flying high in company with six Pectorals, and fi-
nally alighted on an open mud flat where it began running a-
bout feeding. I tried to stalk it but when I was still sixty
yards away it rose and flew across the river making a great
outcry. We followed but could not get near it and it finally
disappeared in the distance towards the foot of the Lake.
Lake Umbagog, Maine.
Aegialitis vocifera
1894
October 2.. One at Outlet, very
noisy and restless and noisy, flying
about calling loudly & continuously,
alighting several times on the mud
flats. I got within about 50 yds.
at one time & saw the bird's
characteristic marking distinctly.
It joined a flock of six Pectorals
& for a brief time flew with, but
finally separated from them. It
is the first Killdeer I have seen
here at Umbagog & it was a
treat to see Mr. Gage who
was with me today.
