Tubica americana.
1898.
Sept. 15 (I am writing in my cabinet)
One shot at Moon Point this evening by James C. Melvin.
When first seen the bird was diving about in the edge
of some half submerged grass. It finally came into the
glass out of sight. A little later Melvin rowed his boat
across the spot flushing the bird and killing it. It is only
the second specimen that I have ever obtained here.
" 24 Another Cost at Moon Point. It started from a bed of half submerged
glass as I was paddling through at evening and flew off over
a space of open water toward morning, birds flying, I could
not hear it easily.
