Gallinago delicata. Lake Umbagog, Maine. 1894. Besides the Ducks a great many Wilson's Snipe arrived Sept.12. (we were at Jim's shooting stand on the Outlet marshes): sin- gly, in twos or threes, and sometimes six or seven together. They would first appear at a height of 100 or 200 feet and then pitch down on set wings making a loud rushing sound exact- ly similar and quite equal in volume to that made by the de- scending Ducks. They "scarped", also, continually, in deep, hoarse tones different, it seemed to me, from those used by daylight. 104
