Call note
Oct. 10 Shot a young bird in Bernards Pond. At first it was
with four Wood Ducks. Afterwards it swam off
and after feeding for some time tucked its head under
its wing & went to sleep. Its motions while feeding were
similar to those of a Mallard Duck. It was very noisy,
uttering incessantly a feeble, nasal hae, hae, hae
that sounded as much like the creak of a hinge
as anything else but was still a duck-like
quack given in cracked tones.
