Seen on only three occasions this autumn, namely,, an adult male on September 23d, an adult male on September 24th and a flock of nine birds on October 25th, the latter apparently females and young. The one seen on September 23d came into the pond in Sweat's meadow and alighted with a flock of Black Ducks well out from the shore. I had a good view of it through my glass and made sure of its identity. The identification of the flock seen October 25th was less satisfactory for they were very shy and I could not get near enough to make sure that they were not Lesser Scaups although I did not think that such was the case. They were in the north bay"and kept well out from shore in deep water, rising at a distance of two or three hundred yards at ~~the~~head of the boat. Lake Umbagog, Me. Sept. & Oct., 1893.
