" 4, & flying from same direction
3 P.M.
" 5- two together in Sweet Meadow
near mouth Megalloway
" " flying through Woods Valley.
All looked like females all very
brown the two Some (three) birds.
" 12. Started 2 together in B. Meadows, Both
looked like ♀♀
Ca - Ca - Ca - Ca - Ca - Ca - Ca given very rapidly
& forming a caekle very like that of
the Golden-eye but softer in tone & a
little feeble. Given by birds flying away
or near flibs presumably near their nests.
I certainly a most peculiar to this season.
I have heard this cry repeatedly (June 5) to-day
from birds which were passing me within
50 yds or less. It might easily be mistaken
for the Golden eye caekle.
Lake Umbagog, Maine.
