1897 May 21 (No 2) Lake Umbagog. Glyptodon bellii the head and neck with perhaps just a trace of the back but as a rule they exposed the body also floating as high as do most of our ducks. I had an excellent view of both birds which seemed to be in full moulting dress & colored nearly alike. In some lights the side character of these notes was very confusing. After I had pursued the female (I do not know why I call this bird thus under it because the other did not pursue the calling) for sometimes without making her turn way I left her when she and her mate at once swam straight for one another and were together once more.
