Tryngites subruficollis
baying (BZAN) 0.5 Km S of Trans-chaco highway on driveway to Juan Zalazar
Dept Boquevón
320 Km N.W. of Villa Hayes, Paraguay
3 Sept
mid afternoon had stopped at mud flat-pool to look at flock of golden
plovers when 2 buffies flew in. landed well away from
plover congregation along the N edge of the water. both birds stayed
fairly close to one another + to the interfac between mud
and water. I was too anxious to get specimen to allow
them to forage much. Collected both of them.
Corai, ~20 Km NE of Trans chaco highway, 320 Km N.W. of
Villa Hayes, Dept Boquevón, Paraguay
4 Sept 1630 drove up to Corai after visiting Campo Flores. While
passing a represo + 400 flock of sheep 2 buffies flew past
landed just out shaft right. Part of party was too in a
hurry to get back to Salazar so I couldn't chase the birds.
Quick glance w/ binos revealed at least 2 more buffies
(c. short grass)
foraging in a well grazed field at least 100' from any
water, too far for any details. I think I saw 3 or 4 others
closer to water but distance was too great. I was pleased to
see that buffies are so recognizable in flight.
