The last two species sing until the twilight is absorbed in the gloom and the woods are filled with deep gloom. They are not usually out from time to call for a few minutes later 1908 Turdus pallasi Bethel July 30 Carnton etc. Two weeks ago there were in full song at all hours of the day. During the first week I have heard them singing fairly only at dawn and in the coming twilight. They appear to be exceptionally uncommon here this year. On July 14th I heard one or two or a dozen thrushes in driving rain. Songs poor, a distortion of their notes. This morning about 3 o'clock two birds were answering one another in thicket near the house one calling e-e-e-e-e (a somewhat nasal, high pitched note with rising inflection) The Canary note 'exp-on call' or the other hears (the night call) and occasionally here (the night call) and occasionally here (the night call). All lengths one of them singing teheck. At length heard two a four round bars very like the call of Techeck, techeck or a Robin Blackbird and black or brown collar in throat, 67
