A flock of 11 on R. Black Point seemed anxious but at the same time fearful to cross the mouth of the con although the distance is only about 1/4 of a mile. They made several false starts rising 50 feet or more above the tops of the trees and turning back after going 100 yards or so out over the water. They finally crossed in two detachments at intervals of about 15 minutes. Their departure is noted. The vicinity shown by these birds was not wholly without good cause for grain predicted up a dead Chicken yesterday morning in the vicinity of the Rose point after a dinner by bird cleaned away. 1897.
