Sitta canadensis Bethel, Maine. 1904 March 3 ♂ in Tail Creek Dr. S's woods (directly in front of the camp) with a single chickadee. " 14. Four birds went at Snow Hill. One, a ♀ in company with 3- chickadees, was busily engaged in breaking hickory seeds from the cones and storing them under flakes of moss bark on a single branch (two folds a hundred!) another was heard whining in dense myrtle woods. Two, ♂ & ♀, apparently a mated pair, were excavating some holes in a dead branch of a large sugar maple which stood close to a house but quite far from dense pine woods. They instead inserted 2 or three holes I counted available on any of those hanging out a quantity of chips.
