Vireo philadelphicus.
Maine (Lake Umbagog).
1879.
June 21. Two males singing—one in birches bordering Cam-
bridge River above the mill, the other on B Point.
I can now readily distinguish the song from that of the
Red-eye. It has two high notes followed by two lower
ones.. There are, however, occasionally interpolations
identical both in tone and pitch with some of the notes
of the Red-eye.
" 22. Male singing near the house.
" 23. Thoroughly identified a male which was singing in a
willow in the Lake House garden.
" 24. A male singing at Nowry about five miles north of
Bethel.
1880.
May 31. Heard and saw several.
June 3. Three males singing yesterday; the song is slower
than that of V.olivaceous.
