June 15 Barn Swallows were skimming about everywhere. I saw them
entering dilapidated barns and, in two different places, deserted
houses through broken windows.
1907N Herundo horreum. Ball Umbagay July 23 copy 6 Early this morning I had several from Barn Swallows engaged in nest making The Belapiu Cat who was crouched at the team on the edge of the pasture. The Swallows were evidently detecting the young which became more about their gang which hovered in a row on the gate post but failed in a race to the house. Callthorn saw that holes & from the parent birds to the number of four or five would dart at the cats in an instant coming in from the open field in front of the team after the ground of only a good a level plane, not and so nearly close as the Swallows were doing some from conditions, nor did they with them under [illegible] conditions. As a rule rough driving, similarly engaged, as a rule well astern the car - were out of reach but they wasted the air on account because every way was and then one would dash within a foot or two of his head. However this happened the sound flutter at the bird with her light from our rather clearly and charality I thought & always strongly believes. I have known cats that without have made more profitable use of such an opportunity.
1907N Herundo horreum Lo. Umbagay August 2 Walking in my room at Balla about midnight; the night dark & cloudy I heard repeatedly the alarm cry of a Barn Swallow which seemed to fly back and forth close past my window. At most near were a bird that still here young in the nest in our barn, for most of the Barn Swallows go off immediately I cannot find where to rest for the night, leaving some in the early morning.
