Corvus brachyrhynchos.
Lake Umbagog, Maine.
1888 Corvus americanus Hunting to same perch. Catching grasshoppers
Sept. 3 Two Crows spend nearly the whole of each
day on a tall dead tree on the back shore.
From this perch they descend, every hour or two,
into the meadow in front of the hotel to feed on
grasshoppers which are swarming there. I watched
them through a glass to day and distinctly saw
them chase the 'hoppers about sometimes running
awkwardly hopping often nearly tumbling over in their
awkward attempts to stop or turn suddenly.
A Crow just after alighting & whenosting
seems about to make me no danger is near
