Cyanocitta cristata.
Maine (Lake Umbagog).
1871.
May 30.
Saw one take an egg from the nest of a Robin and
make off with it, hotly pursued by the parent bird.
1879.
May 30.
Twice lately a remarkable habit of this bird has
come under my notice. Three or four days ago while I
was crossing the Lake a flock of these birds passed over-
head high in air: they flew steadily in a compact body
heading to the eastward, and passed out of sight over
the woods. Yesterday I saw a still more remarkable
flight crossing R Meadows; there were at least forty
individuals in this flock and they flew lower down, in
fact just above the tops of the alders.

June 12.
A brood of young just from the nest. The old bird
bowed her body uttering a note like the tolling of a
bell.
1881
May 17.
A noisy party of at least a dozen flitting through
the woods precisely as in autumn. Within the last
few days I have seen much larger flocks flying over the
lake like Blackbirds.
1882.
Oct. 8-22
Seen or heard every day but they are by no means
as numerous and prominent as in Massachusetts in autumn.
Some of the hunters say they winter; others deny it.
