Otocoris alpestris.
Lake Umbagog, Me.
Sept. & Oct. 1893.
Otocoris alpestris.
Sept. 22. A solitary bird flying
about over a grain (oats) field
on the farm at Ballard's rapidly
rising high in air and going
off northward over the mountains.
It came within 100 yds. of me at
one time and I distinctly made
out its broad, black tail & some
of the other markings. Even without
this view I should not have
hesitated to record it on the
strength of the piping call notes
which it uttered almost incessantly.
This is the second time I have
observed Otocoris here.. Of course
either or both birds may have
been O. praticola but the probability
would turn to favor alpestris
L. Umbagog, Maine.
