INSTRUCTIONS
1. MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO KEEP THIS BOOK ACCURATE AND NEAT !!!
2. It is essential that a McBee card be completely filled out for each specimen skinned, autopsied, or skeletonized. This card provides the primary data reference for each specimen.
3. Once an autopsy is completed all columns of this record book should be filled in by the person whose name is entered as recorder on the McBee card; he will be held responsible for the entry.
4. Enter all species identifications in pencil, even if certain of the identification.
5. Use the age symbols recommended by the banding office; use male and female sex signs.
6. Enter bird measurements in the same order as on the McBee cards, and the weight last, i.e. 126-56-24-36-25 36.2 gm.
7. Measurements are always made in millimeters and thus there is no need to add "mm." after them; HOWEVER, if you measure something in other than millimeters, i.e. an 8 foot wingspan, be sure you indicate the measure used.
8. Collector column should contain only the name of the person who actually collected the specimen so that it is a reference to the precise circumstances of the collection (this hasn't been done in the past). Naturally the collector will record the instance in his own field notes also.
9. Always write dates thusly: 25 Dec. 1963
10. Only local identification of locality is necessary in this catalog as it already only refers one to Kure or Midway Islands, Hawaii.
11. Remarks column should include data on reproduction, molt and soft part colors, and misc. remarks.
12. If the collector does not autopsy and enter the record in this book himself the person who does should add his initials at the extreme right hand side of the remarks column as a reference to any question about the entries.
