Auliscomys micropus
December 9 - Lago Guillermo. 100 traps in nire-bamboo with lots of lush green
grass caught 11 Auliscomys. Four were released, between 25 and 50g. The
following 7 were dissected:
95g F open vagina. Nipples large. Uterus with 7 conspicuous
scars. Ovaries with big pink corpora lutea.
30g F vagina open. Uterus 1mm, white, no scars. Ovaries
developed, but no corpora lutea seen.
30g M Testis 5, white; sv 2.
28g F vagina not open. Uterus 1mm, pale, no scars, ovaries no
corpora lutea.
17.5g M Testis 4mm, white; sv 2.
18.5g M Testis 4mm, white; sv 2.
16g M Testis 4mm, white; sv 2.
The tail skin slips off easily when live animals are handled by the
tail. Young 30-g individuals seem to be coming into breeding condition.
December 12 - 11.5 km W Bariloche. Caught a big adult at the edge of a meadow
in nire/radial/retamo/mutisia:
78 g female, vagina open, nipples large. Pregnant. Fetuses 20mm
CR: 2 right, 1 left.
