Reaseon 1986 70 Dec.25 Drove up to Refugio Neumayer (Challuano) and hiked up as far as the photod dense patch of Aranaway. It looks the same. The patch just below it and over the trail, where there were many chelung earth cover 2? years ago, is still not regenerated to Aranaway; mostly ?Vicia?. Hardly any Aranaway in bloom yet. Warm sunny day, but only one other car at the Refugio. Road poor. Some Largan with seed pods, but significant seeds not seen. Dec.26 Went to Puerto Blest and measured bamboo. Sunny + warm, lots of tabanids. The clump (D-1) at 84 on grid about same. It has very long brancklets. The grid is more open, less understory than I had remembered. Then counted bamboo in bloom on the way to El Abuelo (16). Big parrots feeding on fruits of Desfontainea x Dec.27, Puerto Blest, Sunny + warm, See bamboo, Bachata Bamboo at 5 p.m. Dec.30 Drove out to Estancia San Panon and looked for bats in various buildings, guided by Conrad Bailey; numerous droppings falling through ceiling cracks in topping down the maid's quarters; could see into the attic but no access; no bats visible. The droppings looked OK for histotetics. Then looked in a shallow cave across the reservoir. Saw 3 ?myotis? singly in deep cracks but couldn't get them out; droppings below them.
