Burrows of badger size. Dozens of them near our campsite 3km W of Rahue, but even more a few km down the Rio Alenino from Rahue. They are clustered, 10 or 12 meter diam., and a foot or more deep, usually ending blind, not ending in a terrestunnel. One freshly excavated one that we tried to dig out, however, continued down deep for and was still going after 5 or 6 feet. There were faint cat size footprints on the freshly excavated earth, but no tail drag. Size might be OK for a big armadillo, but what are they digging for? Nov.28 Chaos. Got lock pipes on windoor. Lynn, Wibbel, Gisola, Gaveney, David all came by for shorter or longer visits. Then Adam Hayduk. Nov.30 Went out to our picnic spot at Pampa de Huemules. Dairies being chattered by insects (Vetala eaten). Some Bathrodon holes and droppings, but only a few droppings fresh. Heard 2x tucanos, 2x peledeguipu. The dead stump of bamboo still with fine branches. Dec.1 Student Diego Arion-Suarez called; wants to work on Couyber. Dinner with Arturo Tarald and visiting British yeast geneticists Spencer. Dec.8 Seps with Müller at 9 a.m., down Siuay, lunch + fishing at Rio Collin Mangaro. Stiffed of Mr. Chell's on his Trifol (not home) then cross to border to Hotel Vilque on Saga Prefecture, 7:30 p.m.
