1964 Mus musculus
Sand Island, Johnston Atoll, Pacific
Dec. 9AM. Six Mus were in the 25
10 traps. Five of them (RDK493-497)
were autopsied. The sixth one was
#479. She was released on the
causeway east of the Signal Bldg.
Dec. 6PM. 25 Mus traps were set SE of
13 the signal tower.
Dec. 6PM. We placed aniline dyed bait (rolled
14 oats) in the 4 Mus cages with the 20
mice we caught last night. The
four dyes used were Methylene Blue,
Basic Fuchsin, Fast Green FCF, and
Gentian Violet. The mice began eating it.
Dec. Noon. Some colored scats had been
15 passed by the mice. Methylene Blue did
not show up well. Basic Fuchsin (red)
seemed to show up best.
Dec. We released the remaining mice that
16 had been fed dye.
Dec. 9:30AM. 5 lines of traps (a total of
17 45 traps) were baited and set in the
mouse grid.
