Flew to Hilo, Hawaii and rented a car and checked into the Kukilan Hotel. Made an appointment for Tues day with Dr. Izuno, U. of H. Exp. Station in Hilo. Evening. Watched Polynesian dances and singing by natives. Jan 19 8 A.M. Talked to Dr. Izuno who called in Dr. Lloyal Sherrod, Animal Twin Breeding Specialist at the U. of H. Exp. Station who I had known at OSU. Lloyd and I toured their experimental farm where he is using sheep in his forage utilization studies. P.M. I drove to Akaka Falls State Park where there is a 420 foot waterfall. The Supt., of Portuguese descent (who hates Japanese and is married to a Puerto Rican) commonly sees the Hawaiian rat.
