R.D. Kirkpatrick 1984 Puffinus pacificus Nov 19 Sand Island, Johnston Atoll, Pacific (cont) An adult (band #565-12399) had a 6"X1" orange streamer with "7" painted on it attached to its right wing with a metal band. A blood vessel was hit when the slit was made for the band but it did not bleed too freely. An adult (band #565-12174) had the same size streamer (with an "8" on it) attached in the same manner. The streamers were quite visible, but both of them went forward and hung beneath the wing. 10 P.M. Four adults were caught and placed in a cage for wing-tagging. Two dead young were found at the mouth of their burrows where the C.H. Dog had killed them. One was unbanded, the other bore band #535-13957. Nov 20 9:15 A.M. Adult with band #565-12107 and an unbanded adult each had a plain orange nylon streamer 1"X10" put on its right wing. After passing around the wing, the streamer extended about 7" back. Two adults (bands 615-00371 and 565-12176) had plain orange streamers 1"X6" affixed to their right wings by metal bands. The last one bled freely.
