White-necked Petrel
Shear/petrel X
Bm J's at 0650 had fresh plumage, had very thin
dark border around underwing and no back mous
Bms at 0722 sitting on water
At 1135 I noted new shear/petrel X. underwings entirely dark
size of Dark-rumped P. White headed.
At 1625 a 3" squid jumped a foot out of water in
front of bow of ship
At 1:45 we turned into feeding floor; I shot Dark-rumped P.
molting but bridge didn't see bird shot so we steamed
past and didn't stop for it.
In floor was a second shear/petrel X identical with
above description and description of a couple months ago.
At 1712 I shot and dropped a Newell's shear. but it regained
its strength and flew away while we were preparing to
net it.
God, a nightmare of a day.
