14. June 14, 1953, Sunday Up at 7:00 to check the trapline. I caught the gopher in the new hole. Also along the stream I caught a Microtus longicaudus and three Deer Mice. The Deer Mice were trapped in grassy places near Microtus runways where I suspected trapping Harvest Mice. There were no mice in any of the traps set away from the stream in the meadows. On the rocky, pinyon covered slope I caught nothing but four deer mice. I cannot explain why I did not capture a Pinyon Mouse, Peromyscus truei, here. All of the traps on the hillside were set near crevices between rocks and or near burrows and were baited with peanut butter and raisins. I saw a flocks of about 25 Chukar Partridge there, too. I only saved two of the Deer Mice and I prepared those, the Meadow Mouse, the gopher, and a Chipping Sparrow early this afternoon. About 3:30 PM I went out onto the sagebrush-covered flat west of camp. I wanted to collect some least Chipmunks, but I only saw one, and it was too fast for me.
