46 Oct.21 Clear + mild all day, Everyone says a very mild winter, and spring. Drove up the back road to Cero Cathedral. The gully down from the road, where I took a color photo last may, looked exactly same; same yearling culms not yet leafed out. Saw 2 clumps with dark dull purple flowers between them and the pavement, and another one in the rive scrub above the road within, right of the ski parking lot. Collected a sprig from this and put it in water; flowers not yet open, but presumably the buds were dormant over winter. Park Guard Basti and Martha new in BA; invited with P.G., Horacio Peloso and friend. nothing new on the bamboo scene, according to him. Visited Isabel Gallopin at the Fundacion Bariloch (as Rapoport). She had some flowered culms that Sigfrido Paluhu had brought in, but they contained no seeds. The bamboo seeds that I had given her did not sprout. Oct.22 To Glao Glao well and Isabel Gallopin. Temp: 7° in A.M., sunny all day. measured + marked bamboo (see office account), Oct.23 To Cero Otto with Anita + Isabel Gallopin. Measured bamboo and marked bamboo leaves. The lenga is blooming up at Piedras Blancas on Cero Otto. One lenga twig plucked had hundreds
