Pearson 1985 Bamboo nov.6 Puerto Blest. The big clump that bloomed in the camping meadow just (yr. ago) looks just the same, the seed heads intact, no decay, see photo to see if dead leaves were still on it. Found one seed in a seed bed; no sprouting seeds, no new shoots. A few culms have grown leaves, and these culms bloomed last yr. and are blooming fresh lavender flowers now. Lots of culms died at top (short borer), some of these flowered. Definite yearling culm with flowers and no leaves. A similar big clump adjacent (30 ft) half the culms are flowering freshly; lots of dead shoots; definite yearlings flowering. A third similar clump nearby with no blooming new shoots ±to 1 ft. high. Rosemary plants are invading these clumps, no seedlings of bamboo. Tool incident - light readings with effluent water at ground level around periphery of clump D-1 where the new shoots come up, and compared with incident light on open road nearby; cloudy bright. Light falling on road was 40 times brighter. about 4 PM Then counted flowering plants between the camping meadow and El Albuco (±2 km); 6 on "south" side of road and 5 on "north" = total 11 Then chose a new clump to measure: D-2 across the road from the camping meadow, enter forest to the right of a huge Ribe, then bear left. 2nd growth, but large Cedrus tree, very little ground vegetation; etc.
