Little Lake, Calif.
August 3, 1933.
Hunted between the Little Lake and
the river this morning early. Saw
a young [illegible] duck. It was one
of the flock of eight young
previously noted in the water.
Working for some Poplar trees
near the log jam I noticed three
fair Woodpeckers. I have also noted
at other times that the woodpeckers
keep in groups of three with
usually two males.
After breakfast went up the river
to Conturo for my mail. On the
way up I shot a Audubon Warble
by mistake. Noted a pair of
full grown [illegible] feeding
in the big Fern Lake. Mr.
Conturo said that he had
observed recently the Scarlet
Tanager in the meadow below
his cabin and also a large black
bird like a road runner with
a crest.
Hunted bats in the evening. Tried
to shoot some of the large
black bats but was not
successful.
