1941 28th B. Richardson 3 General Account Abroad the Teleru III. continues. The evenings run was a short one to a port held apart off Catebra where we have anchored for the night. Today for the first time I saw the group dredging. Two scopes were taken off San Clemente. The process is to lower a series of bags one within the other, those given are being inserted for and samples the other are used to safeguard large marine life. Three series of bags have an outer protection of a coarse mesh kind made which looks like the chain mail of the knights fold. The links of this chain work are of heavy steel and it is this steel which does the plowing in the depths. The material when it is brought up is partially crushed and settled. Feb 22 anchor this morning about 5:30 and headed for San Diego. Arrived outside the harbor this afternoon and then dredging bringing up 3 hooks. The small boat was put overboard to and stern trawling was done for several hours!
