Little Lake, Calif.
August 5, 1933.
Hunted in the willows along the Little
Lake this morning. After breakfast
went to the Big Fern Lake to
hunt on the sand bar. Spent all
morning in working among the
willows in hopes of seeing the
scarlet tanager but without
luck. On the way to camp I saw
a & Nighthawk a flock of very
small young. As I passed near
the shore of Fern Lake she swam
rapidly out for about 50 feet
and then waited for the young.
She then swam slowly across
the lake with the young on her
back. Now and then one would fall
off and would seem to have
difficulty getting back on.
Hunted bats in the evening that were
that were
catching insects over the river. There
are a large number of these bats.
They seem to work continually up
the river, pausing and darting back
to catch insects but always working
up stream. All that have been shot
up to date are 3.
