a small Sparrow 9325 and spotted Sandpiper I saw quite a number of these Sandpipers, here I should judge about 15. I saw one downy young that was as yet not able to fly and one female who made quite a racket as if trying to distract my attention from her nesting site. Most of the Sandpiper however were feeding singly along the sandy bank of the river or flying from one point to another, low over the water. I shall visit this location again only early in the morning and see what it affords. As I was returning to camp I found another Pacific Railtender. It was about 150 yds from camp in an oak thicket at the north end of little lake.
