20th B. Richardson 1935 4 General Account Dec. 23 From the traps this morning I took 5 Peromyscus truei, 1 Peromyscus maniculatus and 1 Neithodontomys. Don caught 3 gophers and 1 Ring-tailed cat. The traps have remained out as they were on the first night with the exception of the gopher traps. Bill Hill went hunting this evening and obtained a Cottontail Rabbit. The animal was too badly shot up to make into a specimen. The set which caught the Ring-tailed cat was with 20 ft of the river in a thick patch of grapevines and sagebrush. Dec. 24 From the traps this morning I took 4 Peromyscus truei and 1 Thomomys bottae. I collected the traps and returned to Paytwill this morning. Don left camp yesterday. A met on the weather - It is the unusual California weather when the winter is delayed. There has been little or no rain to speak of yet, the streams are still in the fall minimum. The slight rain has started the grass which is about 2 inches high on the average, still unsuitable for cattle feed.
