Little Lake, Calif.
July 26 1933
Caught a subadult Pteromyurus
from the camp table, a Nectomys
cinerea cinerea in the rocks near
camp, and a Microtus in some
grass on the north side of the
Little Lake. Spent the morning
skinning and cooking. (Beans and
apple sauce.)
This afternoon went for a hunt
through the popplars between
the Little Lake and Kern River.
Things were exceptionally
quiet, little bird life was stirring.
Noticed a few flycatchers &
pair of Red-breasted Sapabins
and the flock of Purgansers.
After killing their mother
they moved down to the quiet
waters above the dog game.
When they saw me they beat their
wings to hurry themselves across
the water and dove under the
logs I suppose to come up on
the other side out of sight. Killed
another Rattlesnake between the
Lake and River. This is the fourth
killed in this vicinity during the
time I have been here.
