Little Lake, Calif. July 19 1933. Started early this morning for the brushy thicket at the north end of the Big Kun Lake. J.B. Conterno told me that they were Scarlet Tanagers that frequented that locality. On the way up I shot a Merganser. She was swimming down a quiet part of the Kun River with her brood of about 10 young which seemed to be almost completely grown. They seemed to swim in a formation one after another. Was unable to find the Scarlet Tanagers. On the way back I shot a Hermit Warbler out of a Poplar tree near the lake shore. Saw a white backed woodpecker. Spent afternoon skinning. Later set out small traps around the north side of Little Lake for mink and weasels.
