134 General Account
2. Junction Meadow Kern Canyon
Kern Co., California. 8400 ft.
Junction Meadow is not
in the true sense of the
word a meadow but rather
a narrow strip of grass along
the river that is cut up
into small patches by the
groups of Willow and dryy
Pole Pine. The floor of the
Kern at this point is rather
wid (1/4 mi) and is bouldery
and sandy in character with
a vegetation of chiefly dryy
Pole Pine and Yellow Pine.
The slopes are vegetated with
brush such as Manzanita, Mountain
Mahogany, Chinkapin and
Greasewood.
This morning hike was
up the Kern River to the
Walker Creek trail and along
the trail to the point above
the creek and then back
to camp. There were a
predominance of Fox Sparrow
in the brushy slopes.
