May 4 Laguna Dam 20 mi. N Yuma Arizona
got up about 5:15 AM got to
dam 20 miles from Yuma Arizona
about 5:30. We drove out across to
dam and turned left and drove along
the island maybe 360 yards long
by 80 yards wide. By 7:00AM
we had gotten 5 Leptotyphlops
humilis. I found all 5 under
rocks on the surface in low places
in clearings of tamarisk groves
near the end of the island.
Refer to R.C. Stebbins species
account for more detailed account
of this species. It is an overcast
day with a slight breeze,
On Laguna dam at 7:45
we see Rough winged swallows (few)
and Bank Swallows flying low
over the water coming out the
spillway. Earlier at 5:30AM we
saw many egrets standing on
rocks just below the spillway where
fishermen now stand. Yellow Parrots
are seen, Several Black Phoebes
