Find stream stream depression + then go down depression. Newt must. be using J.B. Ruth Journal 12 1968 Feb 2 Skaggs Springs Stewart Point Road Sonoma Co., Calif. Sun to some extent. Orientation at rt. angle to sun. May be getting nerve ending stimulation due to warming. Eyes may not be essential to orientation. Maybe newts are being imprinted during the day & have kinesthetic sense which they are able to use to orient at night. Twitty's workers say olfaction is the main orientation sense. How can this be? Evidence says olfactory nerves get no orientation. Blind - can get orientation. Another important point is that none of the newts were found in the water. 05.6 miles is the juncture of of Annapolis Rd and Skaggs Springs Rd. I found one newt a yard from a small rivulet.
