Ruth, Stephen 1971 23 Raptile Collecting Trip May 15 Tramway Canyon Palm Springs Riverside Co, Ca gulley at the bottom of the slope beside the road. The snake was stretched out full length (body slightly undulated) along the edge of a rock. The snake lay quietly with a noose loosely placed around its neck for about 15 min while I went for a jar only occasionally sticking out its tongue. At 1130 we started driving the road looking for Crotaphytas collaris. Several were seen on rocks at the mouth of the canyon but were too way to get. Also saw Sceloporus magister (lower down) and Sceloporus orcuthi (up higher) in the canyon basking on top of rocks. We left the canyon at 1220. Some rocks were gathered for display purposes. Down town Palm Springs, Riverside Co, Calif. 1330 - 1415 Collected 4 Urosaurus 1464-1467 graciosus on bushes on abandoned lots in downtown Palm Springs. I also got 1468 a Diplosaurus dorsalis for my dad. Dips very common + tame across from Ruth Hardy Park.
