Ruth, Stephen 1971 8 Reptile Collecting Trip May 13 Pisgah Crater, San Bernardino Co, Calif. dunes in the vicinity of jct. Pisgah Crater Rd and National Trails Hwy. The sky is overcast with high cirrus clouds. collecting was rotten. Saw several Cnemidophorus tigris and Uta stansburiana BR 1412-13 Noosed two Uma scoparia on sand. One was photographed at the base of a creosote bush to which it had run when disturbed. 1414 A juvenile Sauromalus obesus was taken from a small pile of lava rock in a sandy area. The chuck was "filled" in its crack until it could be grabbed and pulled out. It looked was emaciated. The tail was very shrunken and the backbone stood out. very poor condition. There was almost no recent chuck sign in the area. As one looks out over the land- scape it takes on a brown cast given by the withered creosote. Barbes next to the road look good - probably due to additional water they receive as runoff from the roadway. Little sign on the sands this morning. No sidewinder tracks seen on either day.
